The Language of Loneliness and Depression, Revealed in Social Media

Researchers analyzed 3.4 million Facebook posts and found that depression and loneliness have distinct linguistic signatures — depression centers on emotional expression while loneliness focuses on cognitive processes — suggesting loneliness may stem from maladaptive social perception rather than isolation alone.
