Using Data Science to Understand Human Health

We develop machine learning and natural language processing methods to measure health behaviors, disparities, and outcomes at scale — across cultures, languages, and communities.

What We Do

Research

We apply NLP and machine learning to health data at population scale — uncovering patterns in mental health, vaccine attitudes, health disparities, and more from social media, clinical notes, and mobile sensing data.

Tools & Projects

We build open datasets, models, and software used by researchers worldwide — from depression lexicons to digital phenotyping platforms to public health dashboards.

Our Team

An interdisciplinary group of investigators, postdocs, and students from Penn Engineering, Annenberg, Wharton, and Medicine — united by the belief that data science can make healthcare more equitable and accessible.

Join Us

We have RA positions open for UPenn undergrad and graduate students interested in applying NLP and machine learning to health — with a focus on global mental health, vaccine acceptance, and firearms safety.
